Hedge Layer Agent on WhatsApp

Hedge Layer Agent is Hedge Layer's market research agent, previously called Agent H.

Hedge Layer Agent on WhatsApp is part of the Hedge Layer public beta and is still being tested. Features and availability may change; check the sources behind each answer.

Ask Hedge Layer Agent a question in a direct WhatsApp chat and receive its answer in the same conversation. You can research markets, ask for supporting sources, and follow up without installing a desktop app or running a terminal.

Connect your number

  1. Sign in. Open the Connect page and sign in with your email code.
  2. Create a link code. Under WhatsApp, choose Connect WhatsApp. Hedge Layer shows a QR code, the Hedge Layer Agent business number, and a one-time message such as LINK ABCD-2345.
  3. Send it from WhatsApp. Scan the QR code with the phone you want to use, choose Open WhatsApp on that phone, or send the message yourself from that number within ten minutes. Hedge Layer Agent replies to confirm which account the number is connected to, and the Connect page updates on its own.
  4. Ask a question. Send /help or a research question from the same number.

You do not create, copy, or paste a token. Sending the code from your WhatsApp number proves that you use that number. Each account connects one number and each number belongs to one account; connecting again moves it. Never share a link code. If Hedge Layer Agent confirms an account that is not yours, stop and send a new code from your own Connect page; that moves the number to your account.

If WhatsApp does not appear on the Connect page, WhatsApp is not available for your account yet; use Hedge Layer Agent instead.

Your first conversation

Try a question such as:

Find three active prediction markets about the next Federal Reserve rate decision. Show the sources and explain the differences.

If Hedge Layer Agent returns a numbered shortlist, reply with the number of the market you want to explore. You can then ask a follow-up such as:

What evidence would change the outlook for this market?

When Hedge Layer Agent starts working on your question, WhatsApp shows its native typing indicator and marks the message as read. The indicator stays active during longer research turns. Wait for the answer before sending another question; completed answers arrive in the chat, and longer answers arrive as several messages. Check the cited sources and the time of any market observation.

Commands and supported messages

Type / in the chat to see the available commands, then tap one to send it. When you open the chat for the first time, WhatsApp may also show a few example questions you can tap.

SendWhat happens
A text questionHedge Layer Agent researches it and replies in the chat.
A voice noteHedge Layer Agent transcribes it, shows what it heard at the top of the reply, then answers it like a typed question.
An exported chat (.txt or .zip)Hedge Layer Agent turns the conversation into a trade log: RFQs, quotes, orders, confirmations and open items, each citing its message. Add a caption to ask something specific instead.
A shortlist numberHedge Layer Agent continues with the item from its current shortlist.
/helpShows the supported commands and limits.
/historyLinks to saved Hedge Layer Agent questions, answers and activity in your account. Sign in to download HTML or JSONL records from Account settings. The HTML file can be printed to PDF.
/sources or “manage data sources”Links to Tools settings. Sign into the linked Hedge Layer account; selections apply across Desktop and WhatsApp.
/usageShows this week's remaining Hedge Layer Agent allowance for your account, including Desktop and scheduled runs, and when it resets.
“Every weekday at 8am, scan Fed-cut markets”Hedge Layer Agent proposes a scheduled scan. Type CONFIRM SCHEDULE to create it; each result arrives in this chat labelled as a scheduled scan.
/schedulesLists your scheduled scans. Send /unschedule and a number to delete one.
/resultsShows unread scheduled results. If you have not messaged Hedge Layer Agent for a day, WhatsApp only lets us send a short notice; tap its button or send /results to read the result.
/newStarts fresh conversation context for your next question.

WhatsApp supports direct text chats and voice notes of up to about 20 minutes. Check the transcript line before relying on a ticker, name, or number you spoke; type it if it was misheard. Commands such as /new must be typed or picked from the / menu, not spoken. To analyse a trader or broker chat, open it, choose Export chat, pick Without media and send the file to Hedge Layer Agent; a long export is analysed from its most recent messages. Treat the trade log as a draft and check it against the chat. Other attachments, images and group chats are not supported. Quote the relevant text when following up; quoting a WhatsApp message does not retrieve that message for the agent.

WhatsApp research uses read-only access. Hedge Layer Agent cannot place orders or handle signed requests.

Conversation and privacy

WhatsApp uses the same cloud agent as the current desktop and terminal clients, with a separate conversation for your linked number. It does not automatically continue a desktop or terminal chat. Context can expire or reset after a service update; /new starts fresh context and does not delete your WhatsApp chat history.

Messages pass through Meta, Hedge Layer's connector, and the cloud agent and its model and data providers. The connector clears finished delivery-inbox content. Chat export files are read in memory and not kept by the connector. Separately, new agent questions, answers and activity are saved in your account until you delete your account, including transcriptions of voice questions and the extracted chat text sent to the agent. Original voice audio, chat export files and WhatsApp delivery receipts are not included. History starts when capture is enabled; earlier chats are not backfilled. Only share chats whose participants expect them to be shared. See the privacy policy for details. Do not send passwords, wallet keys, signing secrets, or API tokens.

If you do not get a reply

  • Check that you are messaging the business number shown on the Connect page, from the number you connected. A message from an unconnected number gets a reply explaining how to connect it.
  • If Hedge Layer Agent says your code is invalid or expired, create a new one; each code works once for ten minutes.
  • Send a new text question if a previous request failed or became too old to answer. The service does not automatically resend a reply when delivery is uncertain.
  • If the problem persists, contact support with the time you sent the message. Do not include a link code.

Disconnect

Choose Disconnect under WhatsApp on the Connect page. Hedge Layer Agent stops answering that number from the next message; a reply already being prepared may still arrive. Deleting your Hedge Layer account also disconnects it. Deleting or blocking the WhatsApp chat does not disconnect your account.
